So, you were in an accident. What do you do now?
Stay calm and see if anyone needs help. Call 911 to report the accident even if there are no injuries. The police will fill out the Accident Report, be sure you get a copy of this or exchange personal information with the other party. Make sure you get their insurance company and policy number along with their phone number. If you are at fault then call your insurance agent or company as soon as possible, they will help assist you in filing a claim. If you are not at fault you don’t want to file the claim under your policy as long as the other party has insurance. You can still call your agent to let them know what happened and they can always check to see if a claim has been set up under the other party and if not, they can get it started. If the other party does not have insurance contact your agent to see what options you may have. From there, an adjuster will be assigned to your claim and be in contact with you usually within the first 24 hours of filing the claim. The adjuster will assist you during the rest of the claim process. At any time, contact your agent’s office with any questions.
